3rd Hydroponic system

This one is a homemade unit. Ready made unit was priced at $170.

Black plastic to cover the tote around the plants
Timer w/15min on off intervals and 2 outlets: $24

Growing there now are two Northern Delight tomato plants and a dwarf bush snow pea. four floods during the day when the temps are hottest.

2nd hydroponic garden

an ebb and grow system from discount hydro in Riverside Calif. works really well. Put it in the basement and started with an LED lighting system, but plants wanted much more blue light. LED lights are better for southern climates. In basements, I would rather have HID lighting for the heat they can generate.

First Hydro garden

Quest for low maintenance growing lettuce, basil, etc.

chunk of foam to fit aquarium, $5, packing peanuts to fill in gaps around edge of foam.

8 yogurt cups to hold plants--holes drilled in bottom..
Perlite as medium to hold plants.

Red Sails lettuce grew until severe infestation of aphids. restarted with swiss chard and basil. sprayed bug killer weekly to prevent aphid return. Arrival of Spring>>>movement of system to warmer room--max daily temps 102 degrees. good growth--no problems so far.
